The Zweigelt reserve comes from the Ried Gestein in Teesdorf, just round the corner from us. 2021 called for patience: a cool May held the vines back, but autumn brought warm days and cool nights. We picked on 5 October, and the grapes had 21 °KMW. In the Thermenregion the harvest came in 6 % smaller than the year before. In the glass it is powerful and full, with dark cherry aromas, made dry. The batch comes to 1.600 litres. At competitions the Zweigelt reserve 2021 collected the win at „der Wein“ in the Wienerwald Biosphere Reserve 2025, gold at the Lower Austria State Wine Awards and gold at the Thermenregion Wine Awards.

Ried Gestein
The grapes for Zweigelt reserve 2021 grow in the Ried Gestein vineyard in Teesdorf, on pure gravel that holds hardly any water and naturally has little humus. Its rows are green all year, sown with clover, phacelia and buckwheat instead of grass. We use no herbicides.
The 2021 harvest
The must for Zweigelt reserve 2021 measured 21 °KMW: the Klosterneuburg must scale shows how much sugar is in the grape juice, one degree being roughly one per cent.
What the figures say
Zweigelt reserve 2021 has 13.6 % vol. alcohol, 1.0 g/l residual sugar and 5.6 g/l acidity. It is made in a dry style, which under wine law means no more than 4 g/l residual sugar, or up to 9 g/l if the acidity is at most 2 g/l lower.
The sugar-free extract of Zweigelt reserve 2021 is 27.7 g/l: everything dissolved in the wine apart from water, alcohol and sugar, such as minerals, acids and tannins. In the laboratory, it showed 39 mg/l free and 60 mg/l total sulphur. Per 100 ml, it has 329 kJ or 79 kcal. It received the official inspection number N 20853/23 after being analysed in the laboratory and tasted by an official panel.
The Reserve line
Zweigelt reserve 2021 belongs to our Reserve line, whose wines stay in the barrel longest with us. Depending on variety and vintage, 20 to 80 per cent new barrels are used for it.
