Our Pinot gris reserve is an Ortswein from Tattendorf. We did not pick it until 2 October 2023. In Lower Austria the main harvest had been expected to run into the first weeks of October, so this one was among the late ones.

Village wine from Tattendorf
Pinot gris reserve 2023 is a village wine (Ortswein) of the Thermenregion DAC: its grapes come from vineyards in the municipality of Tattendorf, so it carries the village rather than a single vineyard in its name. The vineyards there lie on pure gravel that holds hardly any water and naturally has little humus. Its rows are green all year, sown with clover, phacelia and buckwheat instead of grass. We use no herbicides.
The 2023 harvest
The must for Pinot gris reserve 2023 measured 21.5 °KMW: the Klosterneuburg must scale shows how much sugar is in the grape juice, one degree being roughly one per cent.
What the figures say
Pinot gris reserve 2023 has 14.1 % vol. alcohol, 7.1 g/l residual sugar and 5.7 g/l acidity. It is made in a dry style, which under wine law means no more than 4 g/l residual sugar, or up to 9 g/l if the acidity is at most 2 g/l lower.
The sugar-free extract of Pinot gris reserve 2023 is 23.9 g/l: everything dissolved in the wine apart from water, alcohol and sugar, such as minerals, acids and tannins. In the laboratory, it showed 31 mg/l free and 87 mg/l total sulphur. It received the official inspection number N 20536/24 after being analysed in the laboratory and tasted by an official panel.
The Reserve line
