Vintage 2024
The Merlot reserve 2024 is a dry red from Ried Hutweide in Teesdorf. The grapes came in on 18 September at 22 °KMW. Austria did not make much wine that year: 1,87 million hectolitres, the smallest harvest since 2010. Late frost, drought, hail and heavy rain all had a say. The batch is 2.000 litres.

Ried Hutweide
The grapes for Merlot reserve 2024 grow in the Ried Hutweide vineyard in Teesdorf, on pure gravel that holds hardly any water and naturally has little humus. Its rows are green all year, sown with clover, phacelia and buckwheat instead of grass. We use no herbicides.
The 2024 harvest
We harvested Merlot reserve 2024 on 18 September 2024. The must measured 22 °KMW: the Klosterneuburg must scale shows how much sugar is in the grape juice, one degree being roughly one per cent.
What the figures say
Merlot reserve 2024 has 14.1 % vol. alcohol, 2.5 g/l residual sugar and 5.8 g/l acidity. It is made in a dry style, which under wine law means no more than 4 g/l residual sugar, or up to 9 g/l if the acidity is at most 2 g/l lower.
The sugar-free extract of Merlot reserve 2024 is 30.1 g/l: everything dissolved in the wine apart from water, alcohol and sugar, such as minerals, acids and tannins. In the laboratory, it showed 31 mg/l free and 73 mg/l total sulphur. Per 100 ml, it has 346 kJ or 83 kcal. It received the official inspection number N 20917/26 after being analysed in the laboratory and tasted by an official panel.
