Vintage 2022
The 2022 Chardonnay selection has all been drunk; there's none left at the winery. It grew in Ried Kirchfeld in Teesdorf and we picked it on 17 September 2022. The grapes ripened through a summer that was very hot and dry right across Austria. In the glass it was a bright golden yellow, with tropical ripeness and a touch of oak and vanilla, full-bodied with a creamy finish, its fruit acidity keeping everything in balance.

Ried Kirchfeld
The grapes for Chardonnay selection 2022 grow in the Ried Kirchfeld vineyard in Teesdorf, on pure gravel that holds hardly any water and naturally has little humus. Its rows are green all year, sown with clover, phacelia and buckwheat instead of grass. We use no herbicides.
The 2022 harvest
The must for Chardonnay selection 2022 measured 19.5 °KMW: the Klosterneuburg must scale shows how much sugar is in the grape juice, one degree being roughly one per cent.
What the figures say
Chardonnay selection 2022 has 12.8 % vol. alcohol, 5.9 g/l residual sugar and 5.3 g/l acidity. It is made in a dry style, which under wine law means no more than 4 g/l residual sugar, or up to 9 g/l if the acidity is at most 2 g/l lower.
The sugar-free extract of Chardonnay selection 2022 is 19.1 g/l: everything dissolved in the wine apart from water, alcohol and sugar, such as minerals, acids and tannins. In the laboratory, it showed 37 mg/l free and 95 mg/l total sulphur. It received the official inspection number N 17107/23 after being analysed in the laboratory and tasted by an official panel.
The Selection line
